Healey Barn

Healey Barn is arguably my favourite Northumberland wedding venue and it’s a dream to dress with wedding flowers and decorations.
This beautifully restored barn is in the heart of the Northumberland countryside and the space inside is just as beautiful.
The rustic charm of this venue lends itself well to a more rustic style of wedding flowers but the space is also neutral enough to provide a backdrop to a wide range of tastes.
Have a look at my styling suggestions.
The Ceremony
The oak and stone barn makes for a dramatic backdrop to the ceremony and the fireplace is at the heart of that. If you do nothing else in terms of styling then please dress the fireplace. It not only frames the wedding couple during the ceremony but provides a place for formal group photos and it’s where you’ll be dancing in the evening too.

The Fireplace
Another way to make a big statement is with the hanging ‘flower bombs’ that are famous at Healey Barn.
Whether you have the budget for 1, 2 or even all 3 these are such an amazing way to show off the high ceilings and beams in this space.
An alternative is a pair of statement ‘aisle markers’ like these milk churns that frame the start of the aisle and can then be used in the dining room afterwards.

The Chairs
The chairs at Healey Barn are already really beautiful so they don’t need covering but they can take a coloured sash if you want to bring your wedding colour palette in. It’s better to do a slim sash tied in a bow at the top or a chiffon chair cap otherwise the sashes will slip off once the guests take their seats.
I also like to dress the aisle with lanterns and candles and put something simple on the signing table too.

The Entrance
The console tables at the entrance are a great place to display your cards box and guest book and any welcome signage.

The Dining Room
In the dining barn, the fairy lights and foliage that are permanently installed dress the space beautifully. You can, of course, add more foliage or ‘flower bombs’ to the beams if you want to go extra!
For the guest tables, I recommend low, simple centrepieces. The food at Healey Barn is incredible and it’s a real point of difference to other venues so we need to leave plenty of space for all of those sharing dishes.
Keeping it simple works well in this room and a personal favourite of mine is a lantern with a floral wreath but anything goes as long as it’s not too big for the table!
